New Author – new book

We are very pleased to announce a new book from a new author – a rollicking adventure through the true life of a Colonial District Officer in Africa, Arabia and Hong Kong, from 1950s to 1990s.

Kenya’s Northern Frontier and Far Beyond by Hugh Walker MBE.

This was written by Hugh in his 89th year, from diaries and notes made over many decades. It was edited, expanded from conversations, moulded and formatted by our very own Lesley Curwen and by Paddy Magrane.

It was first privately published in Jan 2020 as hardback and paperback by Story Terrace.

Trenchant Books is delighted to have converted the text to a Kindle eBook and published this format on Amazon on 1 Apr 2020.

You can purchase print and eBook formats here.

Author interview on Share Radio

Share Radio broadcasts on DAB, mobile app and the internet, specialising in everything about money and businesses.

They have picked up on Nic Vine’s new book, about using Incentives and Trust when involved in change, and Simon Rose will be interviewing him next week (13 Dec) for their Book programme. This 20 minute discussion promises to explore Nic’s broad experience in making things happen in organisations large and small, across many industries. Nic will explain why he wrote the book, and how it can help young managers who are starting to have project and change responsibilities, and act as a refresher for the older hands too.

Broadcast times will be confirmed nearer the date, and the programme will then be available on Share Radio’s podcast page.

Author event on 12 Oct

Nic Vine, author of How Can We Make This Happen is delivering a Big Picture public seminar at the University of Greenwich.

The event is on Wed 12th October, 17:00-18:30, at the Old Royal Naval College site.

Nic will talk about  the ways in which we can Make Things Happen by looking at how individuals and groups are motivated, why and how to communicate differently with different groups, and the extent to which trust is fundamental for people working together. Nic will illustrate with examples from his recently published book, and from current media stories.  This is relevant to everyone in any organisation because we are all change agents now.

Successful book launch

Nic Vine’s book How Can We Make This Happen? : Successful Change Through Incentives and Trust was successfully launched on 8 Sep at Waterstones Greenwich.

A crowd of some 20 friends and colleagues of the author heard Jon Sibson, Pro Vice Chancellor of the Faculty of Business at the University of Greenwich introduce Nic and the book.  Jon praised Nic’s contribution to the Faculty, and admired his self-motivation in getting the book completed and published.

Nic explained the background, that he wanted to capture his experience and observations over 30+ years, his mentoring of young professionals facing their first big project or change responsibility.  He related the frustrations and anxieties that are experienced by many authors, and how pleased he was to be presenting the finished book.

The evening concluded with some signing and a lot of animated discussions over wine and nibbles.
